What's up everybody mark savvy here. I think it's time we give black widow, her flowers, sister, daughter Aventure and to some fans, mother. Black winter was a really fun. Exciting movie. I wasn't particularly. Engaged. In the storyline per se, like, I wouldn't say the villain, you didn't really see him much. It was more him as a. What he did as a concept. The mind control, all that stuff. So, but yeah, there wasn't really this opening, this continuous dialogue with him throughout the movie that makes you really. Or at least it would make me feel more engaged with him as a villain, but he was still a terrifying villain. And sometimes that does work. Black was an interesting movie to cover because it came out at a really weird time. People were just getting out of COVID. We weren't sure if. You know, if the movie. Going experience is going to ever be the same. The studios weren't even sure if their moods would still make money. I think it came out July 9th. 2021. And the thing that was super interesting, but I don't think they've done it since, as the movie came out site simultaneously on a Disney plus and in theaters. Which is why I think. It didn't do as well as, uh, probably Marvel would have hoped. What's astonishing to me is black widow had a budget of$288 million. That's crazy. How does Blackwood off such a big budget? The box office was super underwhelmed. It was only 380 million. You could classify that as a bomb by their standards. I don't know it was, it was post COVID. One of the first. Like COVID really, I think. Screwed up Marvel's, uh, plans, what their TV universe and their movies. I think a lot of stuff got shuffled around, like the way. Was released. Maybe that's what contributed, like it's in the last episode to the kind of dysfunction we're seeing in there. MCU now. But yeah, black widow didn't do well. I'm sure the Disney plus release simultaneously contribute to it. Why would people go to the theaters? For like it's 15 bucks a person just go watch in your living room with your friends or your bubble at the time. And you'd be fine. I don't know, maybe they should have postponed it. My plan of Marvel waiting five years. What have been the best because it would have pushed them through the COVID years. Would it give people time to breathe? There's too much Marvel, Marvel put out too much at the worst time. I know phase three had 11 properties and I think phase four only had eight, but it was, I think it was more the timing of it. We didn't have enough. Space between these two phases for people to kind of. Take a break from it. And now like, I don't know. After secret wars, they really should do a long break. It's what's best for the franchise. Black widow also introduced the new black widow Yelina. Um, I thought Julina was so good in this movie. Red guardian was hilarious. Rachel Wise's character. Her character was great. This whole dysfunctional family they had from. You lean on Natasha Alexa, who's red guardian Molina, who is Rachel Wise's character of the cast opening up. So that's how I know they were all really when Sebastian, Stan and Jeremy, why are they in the cast? I'm just looking at the cast. And I just got sidetracked because they're not in the movie. I don't know why. Even Tom Hiddleston and Chuck Bozeman are in this What black widow was fighting against in this movie was the mind controlled that. The red room was able to create. Cause she thought she destroyed it and Budapest, which you hear a lot about in the MCU, but she never ended up doing it. He, the guy survived. He was in the sky the whole time and he got even more, he got like legit mind control that people before, I guess she was able to break out, but this is like chemical. Mind controlling it until they shoot something in your brain and you, there's nothing you can do about it until the spray comes in. And that's where, uh, Julina the new black widow comes in. She gets the spray and she tries to find a Tasha. They find each other, they both agree to take down the red room. That's the plot of the movie. With the help of their family. Task master was really cool. The only thing with taskmaster. I think one of the reasons I was disappointed when I originally watched the movie was because I thought she was going to be somebody else. And it was kind of. I thought it was a weak reveal, but honestly, it's a pretty dope reveal. This movie had a very strong emotional elements to it. Even though I wasn't connected to the villain. What I did feel. Um, Drawn to like what interested in me. I mean, Was that emotional, the emotional stakes that they felt throughout the movie, the beginning. When they play. Smells like teen spirit like that. That was phenomenal. The best opening, one of the best openings in any Marvel movie. I still listened to that song to get me in the mood for a writing when I'm writing a script or working on my novel. It's incredible. It's such a dope song. It's such a dope opening sequence. They're kidnapping girls or they're going through the red room. Like it's crazy. And when. Natasha. It needs to get out and she ends up killing the daughter and the Donna's being taskmaster. That was crazy. She felt so horrible for what she had to do, but she felt like she needed to get out. It's going back to those emotional stakes. Like they're so high in this movie. Even Yelina she feels like betrayed by her sister. Like, why didn't you. Like come get me that Tasha didn't feel like they were sisters. Then at the end, she apologizes for everything. I think black, widow's gotta be one of the best movies for that. It really surprised me. I've been surprised so many times in this free watch. Holy. Now let's go through the rankings and I'll see who. Also I'll find out where Blackwood a lands. Sorry. If I'm a little off today, I kind of had a pack attack on something I did not sleep. So black widow is better than captain Marvel is better than Ironman three. Um, Is it better than Thor, dark world. I'm going to say no. So black widow will come in at number 21 on our MCU power rankings. Ahead of Ironman three and captain Marvel. Yeah, I really liked it. It had, like I said, those great steaks. But there's just a lot of good movies here. I find that. Like even the worst movies, which are these last few ones, like Ironman. Dark world. Um, iron man again. Captain Marvel. I find even the worst ones, I still really enjoyed. But yeah, I just. These are my personal rankings. I enjoyed the other movies ahead of it. More. So it's going to have to come in at number 21. Ooh, you know, what's coming up next week. Shonky and the legend of the 10 ranks. I can't wait to watch it with you. Thanks for listening to another episode of savvy geeks. I'm your host mark savvy. And I'll see you next time. Yeah.
