Last week. I sighed when I realized captain Marvel was next on my MCU rewatch, then watching from the very beginning. And when I realized after I hadn't been in the wasp captain marveled next, I was like, ah, no. But the reality is. This is probably one of the more intriguing movies to watch on this list because of the fact that I, if you've listened to my podcast, I've not been very positive about this movie. It was probably the benchmark for badness in the MCU for me, like I truly thought it was one of the worst things ever along with Thor, dark world. And Thor love and thunder. Which you haven't got to yet, obviously. And I think. I'm it must've been three times. I've tried watching this movie over the years. And theaters. And then two times after. And each time I try to watch it, it just didn't resonate with me. Even my wife, like we talked about it. In the past. It's just not something we enjoy. That's, that's the reality of it.
Microphone (USB Audio CODEC )-1:And I'm about to say something that I never thought I was going to say, let me fix my seat. Got a little comfortable. Captain Marvel. Is not the worst thing ever. Oh, what. It's just, it's true. It's not the worst thing ever. I'm going to do something I've never done in the entirety of this rewatch and it's important. I'm going to tell you now where captain Marvel ranks. Cause then I need it. I want to talk about this afterwards. Captain Marvel is coming in last and our MCU power rankings. But to me, it's in this. Ballpark of Thor, dark world, an Ironman three. Where they're all kind of equal to me. But I, I like, I personally like Thor and Ironman, a little better. At man, I think it's a step above all those, to be honest, both admins. Now. I'm not saying this movie was a work of art. Uh, I F I put it at the bottom of the rankings for reason, but it's definitely not as bad as I kept telling myself over the years. I thought the de aging of Colson and Nick fury was actually crazy. Good. I've seen some horrible D aging sense. I'm talking about Luke Skywalker and the Mandalorian. They did a really good job there. The movie had some really good visuals. Uh, captain Marvel when she's flying around, which is falling to earth, looked horrible. But a lot of the other stuff was really well done. The editing. The casting choices, the storylines. We're really good. A lot of it was. Well done. It was a fun superhero movie. I don't really connect with. Carol Danvers, Brie Larson's portrayal of captain Marvel. Right now. I think she was better in the marvels, which again, we'll get to that in the rewatch eventually. The person who I thought gave the best performance was Talos. Really well done. Even fury was kind of like, whatever. Not the best performance. But towels was exceptional. And we got to see a baby. Uh, I forgot her name, that Emilia Clarke's character. We got to see a baby version of her. So that was cool. Really love her character. She did a really good job in secret invasion. But speaking of secret invasion, This movie kind of makes me. Observe and see what secret invasion did wrong because the scrolls. You really feel for them. And I feel like they got kind of bone by the, by Marvel, you know, they had a really good. Arc set up. Introduced in, in this movie and it kind of went nowhere. Uh, or at least were a wet. I didn't really like, so when I say nowhere, I'm like, it didn't go in a good direction. Captain Marvel had action. It did have some humor. I really liked the twist that the scrolls were actually good guys. And the Cree were the bad guys. It was cool seeing Ronan before he would make his appearance in guardians of the galaxy. Jude law was pretty good. I definitely. Think I was too hard and hard on that movie in the past. So I want to apologize for that. I don't know. It's just you, you get disappointed and then you get sucked in to the mom mentality of the film. And cause a lot of people were bashing that film when it came on. And I think I got sucked into that negativity. That's why I wanted to do this for you. Watch. I want to watch all these films. On their own. And just going with a clear mind and see what I think. Although, you know, I'm saying captain Marvel got bashed by people, but it didn't make a billion dollars. So on a budget of 175 million captain Marvel made 1.1,$3 billion. That's really good. But it did get bashed by a lot of people. I remember the reviews. Wasn't very good. And a lot of people bash dark world. And a lot of people bash Ironman three. All I'm saying is. Those movies are, are not that bad. Okay. They're not like Morbius or black or MME wet. There's a lesson to be learned. From this. Experience of watching captain Marvel again. Watch a movie before you see the crowd reaction or read the crowd reaction, go watch a movie. Don't look at the scores. Don't look at the online reaction. Don't hear what anybody has to say. Watch the movie once and formerly your own opinion on it, because it's very easy to get sucked into that mob mentality. That negativity. I don't even let myself get sucked into it as much as other people. But I still feel like that's what happened here. And captain Marvel's case. I guess some time I washed on its own and I had a good time. I enjoyed captain Marvel. If you told mark savvy firm of 2019, Hey bro, you're actually kinda kind of enjoy this movie. He would think you're crazy. Honestly, I can't even remember what I ate for breakfast this morning. I don't know where I was in my life in 2019. Maybe I was in a negative head space when I saw it. And then I associated. That movie with that maybe I got yelled at by my boss or something who knows? You, you have a negative experience. You go see a movie and sometimes you associated with that. Even if it's subconsciously, I don't know what happened, but I know that I did not like captain Marvel. And I did not like it in subsequent viewings, but I like it now. But it's still like, not that good. I just, I'm just saying it's not the worst thing ever. I just think sometimes opinions evolve, you know, sometimes we change. You can't say that someone has, and I don't, people are going to harsh on me for saying I liked, or you just change your mind. Bro you, you changed as a person. Okay. People change. So yeah. Opinions are going to change. I'm a different person now than I was 15 years ago. If I saw a movie I liked 15 years ago, maybe I don't like it now. I'm 32 years old. I'm married. I have two amazing dogs. I'm a different person. It's crazy how much my life has changed in the five years. The only five years, I feel like a lot of us changed a lot from COVID. You know, it was a really crazy time. my opinion on this next movie won't change though. We'll be watching Avengers and game. The culmination of the infinity Saget is coming up next. I am your host, mark savvy. Thank you for listening to another episode of savvy geeks.
